New Maple Stock Arrives in the UK

Tamata’s 2013 export of Acer Palmatum (Japanese maples) arrived this week in the United Kingdom and has been delivered to their nursery site at Bernhard’s Nurseries in Rugby. A total of 170 trees comprising 15 different varieties made the six week voyage from New Zealand.

Within this year’s arrivals are six new maple varieties previously difficult to obtain in the UK in a mature specimen form. The new dissectum varieties are the green dwarf Acer ‘Shidava Gold’, the purple and green variegated dissectum ‘Toyama Nishiki’, and the delicately leafed dissectum ‘Filigree’.

The new upright varieties are the ‘Sangokaku’, renowned for its vivid coral coloured bark (especially effective in winter); ‘Osakazuki’, which perhaps possesses the most intense autumn colour (crimson) of all maples; and the multi-stemmed ‘Skeeter’s Broom’.

The exclusive stock will be available to view and purchase in early September from Bernhard’s Nurseries in Rugby. To organise a time to browse through the new stock, contact either Tamata’s UK Market Manager Patrick McDaid or Bernhard’s Nurseries (details below).

Tamata’s product range is extensive and distinctive, with over 25 varieties of mature and unique Acer Palmatum for customers to choose from. The size of the Japanese maples ranges from 45L to 200L, and the forms include single stem, multi-stem, feathered and ½ standard.

Each year, Tamata carefully select only those trees meeting the highest specification for export to the United Kingdom. New Zealand’s Ministry of Agriculture & Forestry oversees the regulatory requirements of UK government agencies such as DEFRA and FERA to monitor, inspect, test and sanction Tamata’s product. Tamata’s rigorous attention to compliance with biological and chemical regulations, coupled with the ability to trace each tree back to the nursery block in which it was grown, provides Tamata customers with a high degree of confidence in the quality and specification of the product.

As mature specimens, Tamata’s trees are ideal for planting (in pots or in the ground) within up-market design projects where the desired effect is an instant “established” garden. Additionally, an assortment of mature Acers planted together can provide an attractive grouping with contrasting colour and shape.
